Young people to deliver “best ever” National Apprenticeship Week
Telford & Wrekin Council is to celebrate its drive to recruit more apprentices next week as part of its support for National Apprenticeship Week.

The council recently announced that it had managed to achieve its target of recruiting 100 apprentices.
Apprentices across the Council are running events as part of the sixth National Apprenticeship Week, which will take place between 11-15 March 2013, with the overarching theme of “Apprenticeships Deliver”.
Building on the success of last year, apprentices from across Council services have come together to plan a programme of activities with the aim of making 2013’s Apprenticeship Week the best yet.
During the week, apprentices will have the opportunity to meet the Council’s senior management team to talk about their reasons for choosing an apprenticeship with the council, their experiences to date and how the scheme can be improved in the future.
A special ‘question and answer’ session with the council’s Managing Director, Richard Partington is also planned to give some of the council’s newest recruits the opportunity to ask questions, talk about their aspirations, their hopes for the future and demonstrate the benefits that apprenticeships can bring to council services and to young people in Telford & Wrekin.
The week culminates with the opportunity for several apprentices to see the council’s co-operative work in practice.
Councillor Shaun Davis and Councillor Paul Watling will be showing them some key regeneration projects in Brookside and Dawley and encouraging them to come up with some new ideas
Apprentices at Telford & Wrekin Council work across a huge range of different service areas and apprenticeships range in length from 12 months to two years with each individual receiving development and support in entering the world of work.
They are employed in areas including Business Administration, Customer Services, Activity Leadership, Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools and even a new qualification in Trees & Timber.
Councillor Watling said: "Apprentices have a major part to play in the future of our local economy and the skills they bring can help council services and businesses to develop, be successful and grow.
“The events planned by our apprentices provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of our apprenticeship scheme and to showcase the benefits Apprenticeships deliver for young people, the local community and employers."
This year the week is about showcasing their achievements and utilising their experiences to positively inform and persuade others to get involved.
National Apprenticeship Week is co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service to celebrate the talent achievements and successes of apprentices across England.
Every year the Week increases in popularity and last year more than 800 events and activities took place across the country. To find out more about National Apprenticeship Week 2013 visit apprenticeships.org.uk
Following on from National Apprenticeship Week, Tuesday March 19 will see Telford and Wrekin hosting a Real Apprentice showcase at the Whitehouse Hotel in Wellington from 3.30-7.30pm
Students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have been directly invited to attend the showcase along with their parents and carers.
The event gives them the opportunity to find out more about what apprenticeships are available in the borough and also gives participants the chance to win an iPad2.
