Mum's business to help tots tackle launguages

A mum is set to launch a business to teach babies and toddlers in Shropshire new languages.

Mum's business to help tots tackle launguages

Davina Hamilton plans to run Lingotot sessions for nurseries and schools in Shrewsbury and Telford as part of major expansion of the UK-based company.

The lessons are already a hit in a number of areas of the country, where young children learn French, Spanish or Chinese.

Davina, who will run the business alongside her job as a vet, is planning to manage the business, and is currently recruiting tutors to offer the sessions.

The mum-of-one, who is expecting her second baby in April, said: "I think it's a fantastic idea to teach children while they are so young as they learn much more quickly.

"The Government announced last year that children as young as five will be taught a language, but there is a lot of research that shows they learn a language even better from a younger age."

Davina, who lives in Bayston Hill, added: "Lingotot is already successful and has been growing rapidly in the past couple of years. Sessions are offered to nurseries and schools and there are also a number of community sessions too.

"When I heard about Lingotot from a friend and was told about the franchises I thought it would be a great opportunity.

"I'm currently in the process of recruiting tutors as I don't speak a language fluently. My plan is to run the business alongside my job as a vet."

As well as sessions in nurseries, Davina's teaching team will be able to offer schools lessons in French, Spanish and Mandarin.

Lingotot sessions link with KS1 and KS2 in the school curriculum, and lessons can be offered to schools who don't have language teachers. Education chiefs will be introducing language lessons from the age of five from September 2014.

Lingotot was set up by mum-of-two Angela Sterling, who was taking time out from teaching after the birth of her first daughter.

Teachers and parents were so impressed with the sessions, they asked her to introduce books and CDs so that lessons could continue at home.

Angela said: "We are delighted to welcome Davina to Lingotot. The sessions she will manage in the Shrewsbury and Telford areas will help toddlers get to grips with language earlier and help improve their future prospects."

For more details about Lingotot sessions, contact Davina by emailing davina@lingotot.com or telphoning 0845 680 8148.
