At a time when Legal Aid is being cut for all but the most severe family law situations, Collaborative Law is growing!

Shropshire Group see in increase in Collaborative Law for divorce

Almost 18 months since the “birth” of the Shropshire Collaborative Family Lawyers Group, it is thriving.

Collaborative Law is an alternative way of resolving domestic disputes, offering private discussions completely geared to the needs of the two parties. The Shropshire Group reports that a growing number of divorce cases in the county are being resolved by this method.

Clients are much more involved and in control of the process which is tailor made by them, to meet their specific aims and needs. Mutual respect and consideration are maintained, benefitting the children through co-operative joint parenting. Court proceedings are avoided altogether. Costs are approximately half that of formal financial proceedings. The pain of resolving family breakdown is minimised.

The Shropshire Collaborative Family Lawyers Group is made up of the following experienced matrimonial lawyers; Peter Flint, Colin Spanner and Lisa Grimmett all at Lanyon Bowdler, Ros Reynolds at Norris & Miles, Katherine Tippetts at MFG, Sandy Edwards at PCB, and Jeremy Charlton and Sue Fitzmaurice at Terry Jones.

Lisa Grimmett an associate solicitor with Lanyon Bowdler said: “We are very pleased that there has been a take up of the Collaborative process, changing for the better the way separating couples resolve matters. However, this approach has not yet achieved the high profile it deserves. Local Relate counsellors, previously unaware of its existence, have been extremely enthusiastic about it, seeing it as a breath of fresh air”.
