James becomes a Level 3 Unified Communications Technician at Start Tech
Following an end-point assessment to review his knowledge, skills and learned behaviours, James Walton has been graded a ‘Pass’ to become a Level 3 Unified Communications Technician at Start Tech.

Start Tech is a full-service IT, Telecoms and Cybersecurity company based in Shrewsbury. Established in 2000, Start Tech work with an array of local businesses and large firms across the greater Midlands region, providing fully tailored solutions and specialist IT services.
Through the structured apprenticeship scheme, James, who joined Start Tech in July last year, has developed knowledge in communication systems and routine service requests, as well as awareness for remote tools and physical equipment. Going forward, James will work closely alongside the fully qualified team at Start Tech to provide expert advice and guidance to clients. To further his industry knowledge, James will also begin completing Microsoft Certifications focused on Cloud Security.
Speaking about his achievement, James said: “When I left school, I knew I wanted to pursue IT and further develop my knowledge in the different industry areas. In school, it was very much one curriculum, but I knew there was the option to learn more about the subject if I continued into higher education. I was particularly interested in the networking side of IT.
"When I joined Start Tech, I felt I could expand my IT knowledge in a practical environment. Having been with the company for over 10 months, I feel more confident in my ability, and I’m now using my enhanced knowledge in my working day.”
Ian Groves, Managing Director at Start Tech, added: “We’re all really proud of James for passing his apprenticeship, particularly under the difficult circumstances as a result of Covid-19. Ordinarily, James would spend time in a physical classroom environment as part of his apprenticeship, but circumstances meant James had to adapt to virtual learning. Combining practical training with formal study has enabled James to build confidence and a better understanding of internal processes and, of course, our clients.
"We encourage anyone who may be interested in an IT apprenticeship to keep an eye on our website and social media channels for future schemes!”
