Housing provider Bromford has donated over £250 worth of school books to Grange Park Primary School, after year six pupils named its upcoming development in Telford.

Bromford boosts Telford school library with book donation

The brand-new development will be called Oakwood, and be built on the former site of Grange Park Primary School in Stirchley. Oakwood will consist of 48 one-, two- and three-bedroom properties, which will be available through rent and Shared Ownership.

The year six pupils at the school suggested six names for the development, and Bromford crowned Oakwood as the winner.

As a thank you for naming the development, Bromford has purchased over £250 worth of books for the year six classes, including Big Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman, The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell and class sets – which consist of a variety of books that cater specially to year six children who are preparing for the transition to secondary school.

To mark the occasion, Simon Allen, Senior Marketing Co-ordinator at Bromford, visited the school to officially hand over the books.

Alison White, year six teacher at Grange Park Primary School, said: “We are extremely grateful to Bromford for their generosity of purchasing additional reading books for the children at Grange Park. The children are already enjoying reading them with each other. At Grange Park, reading is at the heart of our curriculum and we strongly believe that being a competent and fluent reader opens up the gateway to the rest of the curriculum.”

Simon said: “We are delighted to have donated these books to Grange Park Primary School, as a thank you for them naming our upcoming development. We loved all of the names they suggested, but Oakwood was the perfect choice!

“It was great to visit the schoolchildren and read through some of their brand-new books with them. We hope that they thoroughly enjoy these books, and that they are useful for the school to use now and in years to come.

“Supporting and forming lasting partnerships with communities, organisations and schools nearby where we operate is very important to us at Bromford. Alongside providing much needed affordable housing for local people, we strive to collaborate with local communities wherever possible and create thriving, new places which residents can feel proud to call home.”
