Shrewsbury MP visits SBC Training to celebrate apprentices

On Friday 14th February, SBC Training welcomed Dr Julia Buckley, the MP for Shrewsbury, as part of National Apprenticeship Week. This initiative highlights the importance of apprenticeships in shaping the workforce of the future.

SBC Training, a leading apprenticeships provider in Shropshire, plays a key role in developing skilled professionals across multiple industries, including construction, engineering and health and social care. The visit showcased the comprehensive training and development SBC Training offers apprentices and employer partners.

During her tour, Julia Buckley engaged with trainers and apprentices, gaining first-hand insight into their learning experiences. She observed various training processes and even participated in a practical session, receiving a hands-on bricklaying lesson from Frank Taylor, one of SBC Training’s apprentices. This immersive approach allowed her to appreciate the skill and dedication required in apprenticeship training.

In addition to celebrating apprenticeships, Julia Buckley discussed her efforts to modernise the apprenticeship journey. She is involved in developing a digital platform designed to streamline support for apprentices. This app aims to enhance accessibility and engagement by providing a one-stop shop for tools and resources.

SBC Training Managing Director, Colin Thaw said, “It was great to host a visit from Dr Buckley which endorses the importance of apprenticeship training within the skills system of the UK. I think she was surprised to see the range of training on offer and heard first hand from apprentices how completing an apprenticeship allows them to create a future for themselves whilst helping the local economy thrive.”

SBC Training has been a key player in Shropshire’s apprenticeship landscape for decades, working closely with local businesses to create tailored training solutions. The visit reinforced the importance of ongoing support for apprenticeships and the need for continuous innovation in apprenticeship training.

As National Apprenticeship Week concluded, SBC Training expressed gratitude for the MP’s visit and her advocacy for apprenticeships. Anyone inspired by the week’s events and considering an apprenticeship is encouraged to get in touch with SBC Training to explore available opportunities.
