Beaver Bridges Ltd, a specialist contractor based in Shrewsbury, has announced a significant contract win: the Forth Road Bridge Cable Inspection project.

Beaver Bridges win prestigious Forth Road Bridge cable inspection contract

The contract, awarded by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland, further cements the company's reputation as a leading bridge engineering firm.

BEAR Scotland, responsible for the maintenance and management of trunk roads in South East Scotland, including the iconic Forth Road Bridge, has entrusted Beaver Bridges with this critical inspection work. The Forth Road Bridge, a landmark suspension bridge opened in 1964, spans the Firth of Forth connecting Fife and West Lothian.

The bridge, with its 1006m main span and 408m side spans, carries a dual carriageway and active travel routes. The project will focus on the internal inspection of selected areas of the main suspension cables, which are a substantial 600mm in diameter and vary in angle along their length. Beaver Bridges will be responsible for providing all necessary temporary, proprietary, and permanent works to facilitate these inspections.

This award comes on the heels of Beaver Bridges being named New Civil Engineer’s Bridge Contractor of the Year 2024, highlighting the company’s expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality bridging solutions.

Richard Hinckley, Business Director at Beaver Bridges, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are excited to announce that we've secured a major new project on the iconic Forth Road Bridge. This is a huge step forward for Beaver Bridges, and we’re proud to be entrusted with the opportunity to work on such a significant and historic structure.”

He further emphasised the company's readiness to tackle the challenges of the project, saying, “Our very experienced team is ready to apply our expertise in bridge engineering to deliver innovative solutions that will enhance the Forth Road Bridge's future. This project is just the beginning, and we look forward to expanding our presence in the Major Bridges sector with many more groundbreaking projects to come.”

The Forth Road Bridge project is a testament to Beaver Bridges’ growing prominence in the major infrastructure sector.
