Wellington refill shop launches Crowdfunder to grow into Telford’s first eco supermarket

A much-loved Wellington refill shop has launched a crowdfunder campaign to support its move into a larger premises - marking an exciting new chapter shaped entirely by the strength and support of its community.

What began as a small market stall with a simple mission, to reduce waste and make sustainable shopping more accessible, has grown into a thriving, community-driven business since opening in 2021.

That growth is thanks to the people who have supported it every step of the way. Together with its customers, the shop has prevented over 163,000 pieces of plastic from going to landfill, created seven local jobs, and supported more than 20 small businesses by stocking and championing their products.

It has also become a focal point for community action - hosting swap shops, supporting the set-up of the local Green Festival, and taking part in events that bring people together while reducing waste. Alongside this, it has helped the town achieve Plastic Free status with Surfers Against Sewage, and raised money for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and Against Breast Cancer through recycling initiatives.

“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built, but more importantly, we’re so grateful,” says owner Keli King. “This shop only exists because of the community around it. Every refill, every recommendation, every visit has helped shape what we are today.”

Now, the business has reached a turning point. With increasing demand for more products, more choice, and more ways to shop sustainably, the current space is no longer enough. The crowdfunder will support a move into a larger premises, allowing the shop to expand its range, improve the shopping experience, and create a dedicated space for community activities, workshops, and local groups.

“This next step isn’t something we can do alone,” the team adds. “It’s something we can only do together. Our community has built this with us from the beginning, and they’re a huge part of making this next chapter possible too.”

Funds raised will go towards preparing and developing the new space with new equipment, helping bring the vision of a bigger, more accessible refill shop and community hub to life. As a thank you, supporters are being offered a range of rewards, each designed to give something back to the community that has helped build the shop into what it is today.

The team is encouraging anyone who believes in their mission to support the crowdfunder or help spread the word.

“If you’ve ever shopped with us, supported us, or shared what we do—thank you,” they say. “We’d love you to be part of what comes next.”
