Boutique studio receives prestigious Mayor of Shrewsbury Award

Studio Barre, a boutique wellness studio in Shrewsbury, is celebrating after being recognised at the recent Mayor of Shrewsbury Awards, highlighting its growing impact on the local community and commitment to health and wellbeing.

Founded by a qualified physiotherapy professional, Studio Barre has quickly become a hub for movement, strength, and connection, offering a blend of Barre, Pilates, Ballet, and holistic wellness practices.

One of the founders, Nicky Tipton MCSP, BSc (Hons), has worked as a Physiotherapist since qualifying from Keele University with a First Class Honours Degree in 2001. Throughout her career, Nicky has worked across a variety of environments including elite sport, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, private practice, and most recently within her own clinic setting.

The award recognises not only the studio’s innovative approach to fitness, but also its dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for clients of all ages and abilities.

At the awards ceremony, the Mayor of Shrewsbury highlighted Nicky’s impact in the community, stating:

“Nicky runs a Barre & Pilates studio in Shrewsbury, offering an environment where movement and exercise are truly accessible, inclusive, and joyful. This facility is a safe place for people recovering from serious injuries, for individuals returning to movement after multiple hip replacements, and those living with chronic illness. All of them feel safe, supported, and empowered because of Nicky’s extraordinary commitment to adapting every session to individual needs. Nicky’s time, energy, and care know no bounds, and her customers are truly grateful for her commitment to their wellbeing.”

“This recognition means so much to us,” said Nicky Tipton, co-founder of Studio Barre. “We’ve worked hard to build something that genuinely supports people - physically and mentally - and to be acknowledged by the local community in this way is incredibly special.”

Since opening, Studio Barre has built a loyal and growing client base, with many members attending multiple classes each week and engaging in workshops, events, and wellness experiences.

The studio has also expanded its offering to include Barre Rehab, Massage Therapy, and personalised consultations, helping make wellness and rehabilitation more accessible for busy lifestyles.

bar.rehab.plus+ is a physio-led small group Pilates class designed to support individual rehabilitation and movement needs. The class acts as an extension of Studio Barre’s 1:1 bar.rehab sessions, offering a more personalised group environment with greater individual attention.

A range of Sunday events - including meditation, Crystal Bowl sound baths, breathwork sessions, and other themed classes - have helped foster meaningful connections among clients, contributing to a positive and uplifting local culture.

The Mayor’s Award marks an exciting milestone for the business as it continues to grow and explore new opportunities and expanded wellness offerings.
