Law firm announces sponsorship deal with Oswestry cricket festival
Staff at a Shropshire law firm have been bowled over by the news that they are sponsoring a major cricket festival in the county later this summer.
The Oswestry Women and Girls Festival of Cricket, Culture & Community will take place on Sunday, July 5, and is being sponsored by Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors.
A special all-day event, it will be hosted by Oswestry Cricket Club at its Stonehouse Oval ground on Morda Road and is being billed as a fun, family-friendly event celebrating the increasing popularity of women's cricket.
The morning will feature women and girls taking part in softball cricket action while the afternoon will afford the opportunity to enjoy a celebratory lunch before settling down in front of a big screen to watch the Women’s T20 World Cup Final from Lords. The day will also involve pitch-side activities for all the family.
Kate Lawson, of Lanyon Bowdler, said: “July 5 is a big day on the cricketing calendar and we are delighted to be sponsoring the Oswestry Women and Girls Festival of Cricket, Culture & Community - it promises to be a great day out for everyone.
“It would be the icing on the cake if England could make that Lords final of course, but whatever happens I am certain it will round out a most enjoyable day. Another major highlight will be seeing the women and girls in action out in the middle during the morning.
“Oswestry Cricket Club’s Women & Girls’ section were a prevalent force in local women’s cricket last year, winning County Hardball and County Softball league titles.
“They were also named Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s Team of the Year, and we are thrilled to provide support for this event.”
Jools Payne, Oswestry WaGs team manager, added: “We are thrilled to have the generous support of Lanyon Bowdler. Their sponsorship of our event will ensure we can stage a first class festival that will, we hope, inspire and encourage even more women and girls to take up the game.”
