One of Britain’s best choirs is visiting Shropshire for a festive performance of seasonal music and readings - and the event is expected to be a sell-out success.

Candlelit Christmas concert coming to Shrewsbury

Ex Cathedra, a world-class vocal ensemble, is performing ‘Christmas by Candlelight’ at St Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury on Friday, December 6.

The concert has been organised by Shropshire Music Trust, which aims to bring a wide range of high quality live music to the county.

“We are delighted to welcome back Ex Cathedra, a choir which enjoys an international reputation,” said John Moore of Shropshire Music Trust.

“Their December concert in St Chad’s is likely to be a sell-out – it is a wonderful way to start the festive season.

“Our audience will be able to unwind and enjoy an evening of enchanting music from across the ages.

“This year’s programme includes a mix of music from composers including a new edition of the 1591 favourite Coventry Carol, through to a contemporary piece by former Master of the Queen’s Music Dame Judith Weir.

“Liz Dilnot-Johnson, Ex Cathedra composer-in-residence, premieres her new work Ring out wild bells. Add a selection of readings that capture the mystery - and humour - of Christmas, and people won’t want to miss this popular, atmospheric concerts.”

“Over the course of the evening, artistic director Jeffrey Skidmore’s programme of music and readings explores the wonder – and humour – of the season.

“It should be a fabulous evening of choral music in the magnificent setting of St Chad’s Church,” John added.

Tickets are £25 each or £12.50 for children and students and are available at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/booking/category/ygwqelabdeaz or by calling 0333 666 3366.
