The Sound Of Shrewsbury Folk is presenting a special one-day mini folk festival, "Hive Aid," on Sunday, May 25th, to raise crucial funds for The Hive Shrewsbury, a local arts and wellbeing charity.

Folk Festival 'Hive Aid' to support Shrewsbury arts charity

The Hive, located in Shrewsbury town centre, has been a vital community resource for over 19 years, supporting nearly 50,000 children and young people, many of whom face complex challenges.

The charity has also played a significant role in nurturing young talent, acting as a launchpad for careers in the creative industries. Last summer, The Hive launched a campaign to secure its operational future, and the community continues to rally in support.

"Hive Aid," running from 10 am to 11 pm, promises a diverse celebration of folk music, dance, and culture. Activities will take place both on the street outside The Hive at 5 Belmont and within the venue itself.

The event boasts a packed programme including workshops in both Breton and British dance styles, songwriting, and poetry. Families can also look forward to dedicated children's entertainment. The day will feature two live music concerts showcasing a "bumper line-up" of talent.

Sharing the top of the bill are acclaimed "Genius Folk Legend" Keith Donnelly and Shrewsbury's own Jessie Reid. Jessie Reid, who featured at Glastonbury last year, is highlighted as a particularly exciting headliner.

Beyond the scheduled performances and workshops, attendees can enjoy food stalls offering artisanal food, watch captivating Morris dancing, and partake in general revelry, creating a true festival atmosphere in the heart of Shrewsbury.

Activities are ticketed, with tickets priced at £15. To book your tickets and support The Hive, please visit hiveonline.org.uk.
