Condover College artists take centre stage at Shrewsbury Museum
Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery has been transformed into a riot of colour and self-expression this month, as learners from Condover College’s Grafton Centre debuted their latest exhibition, ‘Just Make A Mark’.

The exhibition is a culmination of two terms of intensive work within the college’s Enterprise and Art and Craft sessions. Far from a standard gallery showing, ‘Just Make A Mark’ serves as a visual narrative of self-discovery, celebrating the individual identities and personal journeys of the students involved.
Focusing on Strengths
The core philosophy behind the project was to pivot the spotlight away from the challenges the learners face, focusing instead on their inherent strengths. By utilising adapted everyday equipment, the college ensured that every student—regardless of physical ability—had total creative control.
This approach didn't just produce art; it fostered a sense of independence. The resulting pieces stand as a testament to the perseverance and imagination of the Grafton Centre’s three learner groups.
The Beauty of the Process
Rather than obsessing over a polished final product, the artists explored process art techniques. These methods prioritise the physical act of creation, allowing the students to immerse themselves in the sensory experience of making art.
Visitors to the museum can witness the results of various innovative techniques, including:
Wheelchair Painting: Turning mobility aids into tools for giant, sweeping canvases.
Salad Spinner Art: Using centrifugal force to create vibrant, explosive patterns.
Squeegee Painting: Layering bold blocks of colour across the medium.
Rhythmic Mark Making: Creating art in tandem with music to inspire a "fully creative mindset."
"Nothing can stop our learners from showing off their talents," a spokesperson for the college remarked. "By using accessible tools, we've proved that creativity has no barriers."
Behind the Scenes
For those interested in the "how" behind the "what," the exhibition features an exclusive behind-the-scenes film. The video, which documents the "magic" of the studio sessions, is narrated by one of the college's own learners—a role they undertook with immense pride.
The footage offers a moving insight into the joy and concentration that fuelled the project, providing a deeper context to the colourful collection hanging on the walls.
Plan Your Visit
The ‘Just Make A Mark’ exhibition is a must-see for locals and art enthusiasts alike, offering a refreshing look at what it means to be an artist. Entry is free, and the exhibition is open until 28 March.
