Celebrity judges on the lookout for the tastiest food and drink in Shropshire
Shropshire's finest food and drink creators are being urged to step forward as the 2026 Great British Food Awards officially open for entries.

Producers across the county have the opportunity to have their craftsmanship scrutinised by some of the most refined palates in the country. This year’s judging panel boasts a formidable line-up of culinary heavyweights, including the legendary Raymond Blanc OBE, Michelin-starred chef Adam Handling, Jack Stein, and the celebrated mixologist Merlin Griffiths.
The awards, which have grown into one of the nation’s most esteemed accolades since their inception in 2014, serve as more than just a competition. They are a dedicated celebration of British farming, regional heritage, and the innovative spirit that defines the UK’s modern food scene. For Shropshire brands, securing a Gold, Silver, or Bronze badge offers a powerful hallmark of quality that resonates with consumers nationwide.
Local success stories from previous years provide a compelling blueprint for current hopefuls. Notable alumni from the region include the likes of Peter’s Yard, Belton Farm, Three Tuns Brewery, and Wyndford Wagyu, alongside Fordhall Organic Farm and Ludlow Distillery. Last year’s results saw Raymond Blanc himself praise Peter’s Yard’s Wholegrain Sourdough Crispbreads as "delicious," while Sunday Brunch expert Morgan McGlynn Carr described Belton Farm’s Red Fox cheese as a "striking" product with "great character."
Jenny O’Neill, head of the Awards team, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming season, noting that the event continues to provide a vital platform for producers of all scales. She emphasised that the team is eager to discover the latest standout products that reflect the remarkable talent and craftsmanship found within the UK’s diverse food and drink sector.
The competition is open to businesses from every corner of the United Kingdom, provided their products are manufactured on British soil. With over 60 categories available—ranging from artisan charcuterie and seasonings to decadent sweet treats and craft cocktails—the awards offer a comprehensive stage for almost any specialist producer.
Those wishing to participate must act swiftly, as the deadline for entries is Friday, 22nd May, 2026. The rigorous shortlisting and judging process will take place throughout the summer months of July and August. The final results for Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners are scheduled for announcement on 30th October, with top-tier winners gaining significant exposure in Great British Food Magazine and across its digital platforms.
The season will culminate in a prestigious ceremony this November, where the highly anticipated Regional winners and the overall Grand Champion will be revealed.
