Time to dust off that broken item, Bridgnorth Repair Café could fix it!

Volunteer fixers will gather again at St James’ Hall Church on Saturday, 6 June, from 10 am until 1 pm, ready to save people money by fixing their broken belongings for free!

Time to dust off that broken item, Bridgnorth Repair Café could fix it!

Local people are encouraged to take along small household electricals, toys, clothing, jewellery, textiles and general small/mechanical items to the pop-up repair café, where skilled volunteers will do their best to fix them. Broken lamps, vacuum cleaners, kettles, radios, clothing, bags and soft toys, can often be fixed, which is a great way of saving money at this time when the cost of living is rising.

There is no need for visitors to book; they can just call in with the item that needs repairing and enjoy a hot drink and a biscuit while they wait.

The Repair Café is supported by local business Frith Resource Management; Managing Director Paul Frith said, “The repair cafes are great community events, if you haven't visited one before, pop along and bring that broken item you have been wanting to get fixed, whether that is clothing, an electrical item or something else! We have a fantastic team of fixing and hosting/admin volunteers who bring our events to life on the day.”

Repair cafes have benefits alongside saving money, they actively reduce the number of items going into landfill and offer a friendly community space where people can chat and learn new things from the volunteers as they share valuable repair skills that could otherwise be lost.

The organisers are still hoping to find a tool-sharpening volunteer and an extra jewellery-fixing volunteer, and are always on the lookout for extra electrical volunteers. To register your interest in volunteering please complete this form or email the volunteer organisers at bridgnorthrepaircafe@gmail.com

Fixing will be carried out free of charge by volunteers but any necessary parts for an item will need to be purchased by the visitor. Donations are also welcomed to support the running of future repair café events in the town.

For safety reasons, the volunteers cannot fix microwaves, safety equipment or white goods. To give volunteers enough time to assess and fix items, it is recommended that visitors arrive between 10 am and 12.30 pm.
