Police in Shropshire are continuing to investigate the deaths of two women in separate incidents yesterday.

Investigations continue into two Shropshire murders

Police were first called to an address in Caradoc View, Hanwood, at about 6.40pm yesterday, following reports of concern for the occupant. On entering the property, a woman in her 50s named locally as Jane Edwards was found deceased and an investigation launched.

Following a number of initial enquiries, officers attended an address in Shrewsbury in the early hours of today and arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of murder at about 5am.

He was taken into custody and was due to be interviewed on Wednesday afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, who is leading the investigation, appealed for anyone who might have witnessed suspicious activity in the area yesterday to get in touch.

He said: “I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who might have seen or heard suspicious behaviour throughout the day, until about 3pm yesterday afternoon.

“Anyone with information that might help our investigation, however insignificant it may seem, is asked to please contact police on 0300 333 3000.

“Following the discovery of the deceased, a number of rapid lines of enquiry lead to the arrest of a man on suspicion of murder a few hours later.

“A Home Office pathologist is due to carry out a post mortem examination on the victim in the coming days to establish a cause of death.”

The Coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, has been informed although formal identification of the victim has not yet been carried out.
