Police in Telford are investigating an unexplained death after the body of a man was found at a house on Halifax Drive in Leegomery earlier today.

Body Found in Leegomery property

At just after 4.15am on Tuesday 21st December, police received a concerned call from a member of the public stating that a window at the property appeared to have been smashed.

Officers immediately attended the address and on entering the property they discovered the body of a man in his late 50s. Senior officers were informed immediately and the scene was cordoned off.

Detective Inspector Nick Haggitt, who is leading this morning’s investigation, said:

“I would expect the scene to be cordoned off for most of today at the very least while detectives and forensic officers go about their investigative work.

“We are currently carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the local area and Community Support Officers will also be on hand to provide reassurance to the community.

“The investigation is at an early stage and at this time we do not how this man died.

“A man is his early 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and he is currently in custody at Malinsgate Police Station.

“Anyone with information that could relate to this death, or activity at the address on Halifax Drive, is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000.

“Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would rather not get directly involved yourself.”
