Woollerton Youngster Wins North Shropshire Road Safety Design Competition
A Woollerton youngster has been named winner of a charity-backed competition to promote road safety.

In a special assembly yesterday at Hodnet Primary School, Megan Lockley, age 10, was told by the Market Drayton Rural Local Policing Team she had won the contest, supported by national charity Brake.
Her design has been printed on 150 high visibility vests, which have been shared among all the schools that took part and will be used by pupils when on walks and outings, ensuring they can be easily seen by drivers.
The Local Policing Team picked Megan as winner from among more than 70 entries from pupils at Hodnet, Buntingsdale, Cheswardine, Hinstock and Stoke-on-Tern primary schools.
She was presented with a certificate and a bag of prizes by Councillor Roger Smith, Mayor of Market Drayton, PC Mick Sturland and CSO Sharon Creber.
In addition to her design being printed, she also received a book token, set of bicycle lights donated by Shropshire Council, a high visibility rucksack, a teddy donated by Muller and numerous road safety reflectors.
A runner up from each of the five schools was also chosen, with Sadie Henshell-Kelly, age 11, picked from Hodnet. They each received a book token, set of lights and a teddy.
Every pupil who took part in the competition was also given a teddy from Muller.
PC Sturland said: “The competition followed on from a number of road safety awareness sessions we held in the schools before Christmas.
“Pupils were tasked with coming up with a design to promote road safety, based on what they had learned in the sessions.
“We had a great response with some really fantastic designs. It was very difficult to choose a winner but in the end, Megan’s design just stood out.”
Megan said she was shocked and pleased to have won the competition.
“I feel really happy and proud of myself to have won, as I wasn’t expecting to. It feels quite exciting that my design will be worn by children at all the other schools,” she said.
“The talk by the police really helped me understand how to stay safe on the roads.”
