The Wrekin Housing Trust wins gold for sheltered housing scheme
One of The Wrekin Housing Trust's sheltered housing schemes, Ridgway in High Ercall, has won a gold award in the National Housing for Older People Awards 2011, which is run by the Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC).

Residents from Ridgway and employees from the Trust went along to the awards ceremony on Thursday and were over the moon to hear it announced that they had won the gold award for ‘the best UK rural retirement housing scheme’.
Ridgway’s nomination was drawn up following the EAC’s national campaign to get residents sending feedback about their scheme. The residents played a card game to stimulate discussion and to encourage them to give their views on topics including where they live, the quality of their home, services received and lifestyle. These views formed the basis of the nomination, which led to Ridgway being shortlisted for the awards.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation sponsored the ‘best UK rural retirement housing scheme’ award, which was one of 12 award categories. For each category, a winner is chosen to receive either gold, silver or bronze awards.
Karen Henderson, scheme manager said: “We are all thrilled to have won this fantastic award. This is all testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with Ridgway. We have a fantastic team and the residents really make Ridgway a great place to work. Thank you to everyone who voted for the scheme.”
The EAC is a national charity that aims to help older people make informed choices about meeting their housing and support needs. Ridgway will receive £250 and residents will decide how to put the prize to the best use at their scheme.
