Man stabbed and hit several times during assault in Wellington
A team of police officers in Telford is investigating following a serious assault in Wellington at the weekend. The incident occurred on Espley Close at just after 6.15pm on Saturday.

A 19-year-old man had just got into his parked car having finished work when another car approached his vehicle travelling at speed. The other vehicle – described as being a dark coloured Volkswagen Golf – collided with the victim’s car causing significant front end damage.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Steve Tonks, who is leading the investigation into this incident, said:
“Following the collision three or four men - dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered - jumped out of the VW Golf carrying baseball bats and metal bars. They approached the victim’s vehicle, forced open the door and then attacked him - hitting and stabbing him a number of times.
“After the assault the offenders got back into their vehicle and left the scene at high speed up Tan Bank away from Wellington town centre. Emergency services were called immediately and the victim was rushed to hospital to receive treatment. Although he suffered a number of stab wounds all over his body as a result of this attack – including a severe cut to one of his arms – the victim is now in a comfortable condition.
T/DCI Tonks continued: “We have set up an incident room at Malinsgate Police Station to investigate this incident and a number of officers are now dedicated to this inquiry. We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault and are particularly keen to trace the occupants of a silver vehicle that was on Tan Bank close to ‘The Silver Fish’ fish and chips shop at around the time this incident occurred.
“As they made their escape the offenders were forced to mount the kerb to manoeuvre their car around this silver vehicle and therefore we’d be keen to speak to any of the individuals who were in this vehicle to establish whether they have any information that could aid our investigation.
“We believe this assault is linked to an incident that occurred in the car park at the Bridge Builder public house on the Wrekin Retail Park at around 10pm on Wednesday 26th January. There are obvious similarities between the two incidents and therefore the investigation team are linking up the two investigations.
“I would encourage anyone who believes they have information that could aid our investigation to come forward and share it with us as soon as they can. It is vital that witnesses come forward so that we can catch the individuals involved.
“Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call the police on 0300 333 3000.
“However, we do acknowledge that some people do not want to get involved or give their name and therefore please remember that Crimestoppers provides the means for anyone to pass information about suspicious activity or crime with a guarantee of anonymity. Information left via the 0800 555 111 number will be passed on to us and then investigated by officers from our team.”
