Police today called on the public to help identify a man who indecently exposed himself to a teenage girl in Shrewsbury.

Police investigate second indecent exposure incident in Shrewsbury

It’s the second incident in the same area of the town in less than a week, although police are not convinced the same person is responsible.

Last night’s incident happened at around 5.35pm on a cycle path between Sutton Road and Sutton Lane.

Detective Inspector Mick Homden said today: “A 16-year-old girl was walking along when she heard some rustling in nearby bushes. She saw a male about two metres away who exposed himself to her.”

He said the girl screamed and ran off. She was assisted by a member of the public who heard her screams and who immediately phoned the police.

The man is described as white, about 5ft 8ins tall, in his late 40s, of stocky build with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark top with stonewashed denim jeans.

Last week’s incident happened at around 5.20pm on Wednesday in Pritchard Way when a man exposed himself to a woman cyclist. Again, he was stood in some bushes at the time.

DI Homden said: “It may be the same person involved but we can’t be certain at this stage. What we are anxious to receive is any information from the public which could help us trace the offender.

“I would stress we are doing everything we can and our investigations into both incidents are continuing. I would also stress that if there are any further similar incidents, it is absolutely vital the police are called as soon as possible. The number at Shrewsbury police station is 0300-333-3000.”

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800-555-111.
