Police are appealing for information after an elderly couple were threatened by a man calling to their door.

Elderly couple threatened by knife brandishing caller at their door

The couple aged in their 60’s were at their home in King Street, Dawley, when the incident happened at around 8.30pm on Saturday

A knock to their door was received and the male householder used a side door to his property to see who was calling at his home. When he opened the door a man dressed in a balaclava was stood outside brandishing a 6inch knife.

The suspect made demands and requests for money to the man.

The victim’s wife, who was inside the property, heard the commotion and went to the door to investigate. She was also threatened.

The couple went inside but the suspect followed them into the house. The male householder grabbed a chair from the dining room and threatened the suspect. He left and ran off towards Purbeckdale.

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “This was a very frightening experience for the couple.

“Fortunately the couple were not injured in any way but they were left extremely shaken.

“We would appeal to anyone with information about the incident to come forward as soon as possible.

“We are eager to catch the person responsible and need your help.”

Information should be passed to Telford Police on 0300 333 3000 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
