Shropshire school to be illuminated with petition against proposed closure
On Thursday, 24th March the Wakeman School building in Shrewsbury is to be illuminated by a rolling electronic petition against the closure of the school.

Local artist Andy McKeown who has developed the installation has also designed a pop art projection of pupils Gemma Exelby and Mathew Davies holding protest placards.
Karen Moore, Headteacher, commented:
“The projection onto the school is of gigantic proportions reflecting the sheer size of the artwork and the huge number of people who have supported our campaign. Throughout this entire process we have been staggered by the support of pupils, former pupils, parents, staff, governors and the local community. We hope that the projection, together with the numerous mock ‘For Sale’ signs outside the building, will encourage more people to attend the consultation meeting scheduled at the school on Thursday, 24th March at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome”.
Mike Griffiths, Director of Arts at the school, has worked closely with Andy McKeown on a number of exciting projects. “The projection embodies the creativity that exists at the Wakeman. It represents our work in the Arts and the fantastic facilities we have available. Surely the strength of feeling must make the powers that be rethink their proposals.”
The consultation meeting is being held at the school on Thursday, 24th March. Andy Rayment, Chair of Governors at the school, urges everyone with an interest in the school, past, present or future, to join the meeting. “This is our one chance to meet face to face with the people who have put forward these proposals. As a community we need to show the strength of our feeling and stop the planned closure of the school going ahead. The meeting for staff will be at 4.30pm, Governors at 5.30pm and parents and the community at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to this last meeting so please come and show your support for the school.”
