Telford Town Park Arena set for Jubilee scheme boost
Telford & Wrekin Council is set to nominate the Town Park Arena as the first open space within the borough to be safeguarded by a special scheme as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The council’s cabinet, which meets on March 22, is being asked to give the thumbs up to taking part in The Fields In Trust’s national Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge.
This aims to safeguard nationally at least 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces for future generations in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee - a scheme which will also link with the London 2012 Olympics.
As a result, Fields In Trust is asking local authorities to nominate public open spaces they would like to see protected forever.
Council leader Andrew Eade said: “The arena is a fantastic venue in Telford’s wonderful Town Park and the Fields In Trust initiative offers us the perfect opportunity to safeguard it as a green public open space for use by the community.
“If approved by cabinet, the Arena is the first nomination from the borough but more than one per local authority can be made.
“The council is very appreciative of the Friends of Telford Town Park, who as a voluntary group has worked extremely hard over the years to improve, enhance and protect the park.”
Chris Pettman, chairman of Friends of the Telford Town Park, said: “The Friends of Telford Town Park are very supportive of this approach to protect the Town Park Arena for the enjoyment of the whole community in future years to come.”
