West Midlands Ambulance Service considers name change
West Midlands Ambulance Service has revealed it is considering changing its name and is looking to the public for help in nominating a suitable replacement.

The Trust recently completed a three month public consultation on its proposals to become a Foundation Trust. As part of the consultation, the Trust proposed a change of name to ‘Midlands Emergency Healthcare NHS Foundations Trust’ as it was felt it better described the area and the wide range of services provided.
Feedback received from the consultation process proved inconclusive on the subject of a name change. Therefore, WMAS is now looking to consult further on the issue as Steve Parry, spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service outlines:
“Although the feedback showed that overall, 66% of people who commented supported our proposal, we received a variety of suggestions for a new name.
Other respondents felt that we should not be changing the name at all; while others still felt that we should continue to have the word ‘ambulance’ in our title.”
Before the Trust makes a final decision on a name change, we would like to ask the public to consider the options. Based on all the feedback, we have narrowed down all of the views to three options:
Option 1: West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (status quo)
Option 2: Midlands Emergency Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (consultation proposal)
Option 3: Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (alternative based on feedback)
West Midlands Ambulance Service would like to hear the views of the public by 5pm on Thursday 21st April 2011.
