Departing school head given special suprise
Personnel and children from RAF Shawbury have said goodbye, in style, to the departing headmaster of St Mary’s C of E Primary School.

Dr Huw Humphries is leaving the school, which sits across the road from the airbase, at the end of this week, to take up his new post as Headmaster of the Christ the Sower Ecumenical Primary School in Milton Keynes.
Huw has been head of the Shawbury School for the last 8 years and 2 terms. As a thank you for all his assistance and for all the service children he has taught, Huw was given a surprise visit to the unit.
During the visit he was thanked on behalf of the Defence Helicopter Flying School and RAF Shawbury by Group Captain Jock Brown. Huw was then whisked away for a flight in a Squirrel helicopter of the Defence Helicopter Flying School of No 660 Squadron flown by Sergeant Si Otter of the Army Air Corps. Huw was flown, on a training flight, around the local area including over Wroxeter before landing in the school field with his staff and children looking on.
Huw said, ‘I really enjoyed the flight and it was much quieter and calmer than I expected. It was nice to land at the school and be able to wave to all of the children of St Mary’s. I have really enjoyed being Head of this marvellous school and will be sad to move on. I have also enjoyed my links with RAF Shawbury.’
