Project set to improve youngsters’ skills
A project in South Shropshire has been delivered to help turn around a trend which sees 700 youngsters leave the county each year in search of employment.

Youngsters in Bishops Castle have had the benefit of a series of 3 workshops to improve their confidence, motivation and self awareness, helping to increase their chances of finding local employment. Beyond Brilliance CIC has taken them on a route to try work experience in the fields in which they are interested, resulting in openings for part time employment, and also enhanced experience for their CVs. They have also been given the opportunity to write a press release about the businesses they visited, which have been published on a county wide website http://www.imagine-shropshire.co.uk.
This has been a step beyond work experience in that the businesses have also benefited from the PR experience with some incredible support from Amy Bould from one of the county’s foremost PR agencies www.beboldpr.com.
The workshops have been of great benefit to the young people creating a practical and positive action plan for the future.
One of the students said “The experience I had was fantastic, because I am home educated I would never have had the opportunity to go out into the market place and try out the work placement, which has now focused me on applying to college to go into catering”. David Hiam from Bishop’s Castle Community College said “With all the cutbacks going on, we would love to have Beyond Brilliance involved in further projects in the future”.
Beyond Brilliance CIC has just been awarded an UnLtd Millennium award which will enable them to move their business forward in a much faster and streamlined manner, undertaking additional simular projects in Shropshire and the surrounding counties.
Sheila Henshall one of the Directors of the Company said “It was a very rewarding project delivered in Bishops Castle, strengthening the links between Business, Communities and Education which is the overall aim of our business”.
