Oakengates residents get extra weapon in fight against speeding drivers
Residents on Holyhead Road in Oakengates, Telford, are being given an extra weapon in the fight against speeding drivers.

The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia and the local policing team are distributing stickers for residents to place on their wheelie bins to remind drivers of the 30mph speed limit.
PC Rod Lake of West Mercia Police explained: “These stickers provide an extra reminder for motorists that Holyhead Road is a 30mph zone. It has street lighting and no repeater signs which means that the speed limit is 30mph. I would urge drivers to slow down on Holyhead Road and observe the speed limit.”
Katy Jenkins of the Safer Roads Partnership said: “Speeding is not only an important road safety issue; it also affects people’s quality of life. Many residents living in 30mph zones are concerned about the safety risk posed by speeding drivers so I would urge motorists to look out for 30mph zones in built up areas and observe the limit – it’s a 30 for a reason.”
Motorists who are unsure how to identify a 30mph zone should look out for street lighting and if there are no repeater signs showing another limit then the speed limit is 30mph.
Residents Chris Ransome and Lindon Lloyd who both live on Holyhead Road are concerned about speeding. Mr Ransome commented: “We’ve been worried about the speeds of drivers using this road for some time. I’m glad that action is now being taken and I hope that the stickers remind people that it’s a 30mph limit and that they should slow down”
Resident Lindon Lloyd added: “I’m particularly worried about the speeds of cars in the morning when children are walking to the local school. It’s a 30mph road for a reason and residents want drivers to slow down especially at school times.”
