Takeaway driver assaulted and robbed in Shrewsbury

The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Sunday at the junction of Wingfield Close and Wingfield Gardens, Ditherington.

The driver had pulled up in his vehicle when he was confronted by two men. He was punched in the face and £250 taken from his wallet. A packet of Benson and Hedges cigarettes were also stolen.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: “We are anxious to hear from anyone who saw this incident or who has information about the two men involved. The number to call at Shrewsbury police station is 0300-333-3000.”

One of the assailants is described as about 5ft 8ins tall, in his mid twenties, of slim build, with short dark hair and had a spotty face. He was wearing a green woollen balaclava, a white pullover hooded top and white trainers.

His colleague was also in his twenties, slightly shorter and wearing blue bottoms and a white top.

Police say a man has been arrested in connection with the incident and given bail pending further enquiries.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800-555-111, for which a reward may be paid.
