Shropshire celebrates Royal wedding day
Shropshire residents today celebrated the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton with a number of events being held to mark the occasion across the county.

In Shrewsbury hundreds of people attended a street party hosted by The Hive Music and Media Centre. BBC Midlands today broadcast live from the event before relocating to St. Chads Church for a live broadcast during the early evening news.
Alyson Lanning, the Hive’s Director said “This event presented us with a fantastic opportunity for us to positively engage with our neighbours and bring various groups of people together. There are only a handful of street parties due to take place in Shropshire on the day of the Royal Wedding, which makes the Hive’s party even more important and we have been keen to involve as many local traders as possible”.
Habib Malik-Mansell, Marketing Assistant at the Hive said “We have had a fantastic turnout, the weather was kind to us and everyone who attended had a great time".
Public houses and restaurants also celebrated the royal wedding with special menus and a party atmosphere showing the ceremony on large screens.

In Newport The Aston celebrated the wedding with a Royal wedding breakfast. Staff also dressed up in Royal garb. A special evening menu was also available where people could enjoy some of the Royals favourite dishes.
Residents from The Wrekin Housing Trust’s 35 sheltered housing schemes also got together to cheer on Prince William and Katherine Middleton by holding their very own celebratory parties.
The organisers of a major caravan and motorhome spring show in Shropshire also ensured those attending the event could still watch the Royal wedding. Large screen televisions were located around the show showing the live coverage at the West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome Show, which is being hosted by Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury.
Good luck wishes to William and Kate were also issued by RAF Shawbury’s Station Commander, Group Captain Bunny James. In a statement released on behalf of all at the RAF base he said:
“We are delighted for the Royal couple on their Wedding Day and wish them the best of luck for now and the future.

“As a former trainee on the base, and a serving RAF helicopter pilot, Prince William (Flight Lieutenant Wales) has a special affinity with RAF Shawbury and this is felt by the team here… the majority of whom will, we are sure, be watching and celebrating in their own way with a mixture of pride and satisfaction, as well as loyal support and genuine joy.
“We are sure it will be a magnificent event and spectacle for the whole country, and we hope that it holds special memories and lives long in the hearts of both Prince William and Catherine as they move forward into their life together.”
