Two men have been arrested on suspicion of robbery after an elderly man was taken to hospital following an incident at an address in Oswestry.

Two arrested following attack on elderly man during Oswestry robbery

Police were called to Ambleside Road just after 3am yesterday following a call from the victim, reporting he had been attacked by persons who had broken into his home.

Officers attended and an ambulance was called to take the man, who is in his 80s, to hospital. He remains in a serious but stable condition this morning, with injuries to his head, hip and arm.

Following extensive police enquiries, a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of robbery in the Oswestry area at about 9.30pm yesterday.

Both remain in police custody and will be interviewed later today.

Detective Inspector Mick Homden, who is in charge of the investigation, appealed for anyone who might have witnessed suspicious activity in the Ambleside Road area during the early hours of yesterday to contact police as a matter of urgency.

“At this stage, it has not been established what, if anything was stolen during the incident but the victim has been left with various injuries and is in a serious but stable condition in hospital at this time,” he said.

“Forensic officers have carried out an extensive examination of the scene and I urge anyone who might have seen persons acting suspiciously in that area during the early hours of yesterday to please get in touch on 0300 333 3000.

“Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
