Shrewsbury pub burglaries investigated by police
A series of pub burglaries in Shrewsbury has prompted police to warn licensees to be on their guard.

Four pubs in the town centre have been burgled since the beginning of the month – the Golden Cross in Princess Street, The Vaults in Castle Gates, the Albion Inn at Castle Foregate and the Belle Vue Tavern in Belle Vue Road.
Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff said today: “We want pub landlords and their staff to be aware of what’s happened.
“We are investigating the incidents and appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about those responsible, to contact Shrewsbury CID on 0300-333-3000.
“However, it’s important licensees are fully aware of this spate of burglaries so they can take all possible security precautions.
“Burglary remains a priority for the police in Shrewsbury and indeed, for the whole of Shropshire and West Mercia. We are continuing to investigate these incidents and would welcome any information which might help us trace the offenders.”
Di Wagstaff said the police were keeping an open mind whether the four incidents were linked. “It’s possible but we don’t know for sure. We are determined to arrest those responsible but we could do with helpful information from the public,” she said.
The first burglary at the Golden Cross happened between 8pm and 8.30pm on May 1 where a purse was stolen from a bag belonging to a member of staff.
A window was forced at The Vaults between 6am and 6.30am the following day where cash was taken from a fruit machine.
The Albion Inn was entered, again through a window, between 10pm on Monday and 7.15am on Tuesday and cash stolen from the bar area.
Finally, the Belle Vue Tavern was broken into between 2am and 8.30am yesterday when a quantity of cash was again taken.
Information about the burglaries can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800-555-111, for which a reward may be paid.
