Telford police liaise with scrap metal dealers following copper theft

Thieves broke into the housing site at Church Walk in Donnington some time between 7pm on Wednesday and 8am on last Thursday.

Five vacant properties were broken into and copper piping was stolen from within the site. A total of £1,500 of piping was stolen and around £20,000 damage was caused as a result of the break-ins.

Police are liaising with scrap metal dealers and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “A huge amount of damage was caused to the properties, which had been left safe and secure on Wednesday night.

“When the site manager arrived for work on Thursday morning, it was then he discovered the break-ins.

“Police were called and a number of enquiries have been carried out.

“Officers have visited scrap metal dealers to offer advice and information and will be liaising with them in the event of suspicious metal being offered for sale to them.

“If you have any information that could help Police with their enquiries, please contact us.”

Telford Police can be contacted on 0300 333 300 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
