500 jobs lost as RBS closes Telford office
Staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Telford were today told their jobs would be lost as part of a reduction in the number of centres the bank operates.

In September it was announced that the bank would be reducing the number of centres it operated which would lead to job losses.
The closure of Telford debt management and fraud office will lead to 500 job losses, a further 40 will be lost in Leeds and 150 in Plymouth.
An RBS spokesman said: "We have identified the sites that would close over the next two years and committed to giving our employees 12 months' notice of the closures taking place.
"We will do all we can to support our employees, offer redeployment opportunities wherever possible and to keep compulsory redundancies to an absolute minimum.”
Unite the union said it is appalled that the Royal Bank of Scotland is to close a key centre.
Dave Fleming, Unite national officer said: “The job losses announcements and site closures announced today by the Royal Bank of Scotland are truly devastating news for the local communities, many of which depend on these finance jobs.
“When RBS announced 3,500 job cuts in September 2010 there was utter disbelief about the scale of the cuts, today we are seeing the human tragedy which this decision will result in. We must remember that behind each and every job loss there is a family tragedy and the consequences are often devastating.
“Unite is calling on the bank to do more to offer re-training and redeployment for the workforce, who will today be distraught by this news.”
