Planning permission approved for new £8.9m care home in Oswestry
Approval has been granted for Coverage Care to build a new 88 bed care home with nursing facilities on Shrewsbury Road in Oswestry.

When complete in summer 2013, it will create 50 new jobs and employ over 100 full and part time staff.
Chief Executive of Coverage Care David Coull said: “We are delighted that the project has been supported and hope that Oswestry residents will welcome the addition of the much needed care and nursing services on the south side of the town”.
“The increasing proportion of older people living in the Oswestry area is putting pressure on places in existing care homes, including Fairholme which we lease from Shropshire Council.”
“When the new home is complete, the plan is to transfer the 40 residents and all the existing staff from Fairholme in Morda Road Oswestry and return the existing building to Shropshire Council” said Mr Coull.
The proposed new home will have 88 large en-suite bedrooms, with two 22 bed wings on each floor, each with its own lounge and dining area, sharing communal rooms and a private garden area to the rear of the building.
The building is designed with a domestic ambience, having a variety of pitched roof heights and gable ends to look attractive in its own right and to blend-in with the surrounding area. Access to the site will be from Shrewsbury Road, with private parking for staff and visitors.
David Coull said: The design is based on our experience of building and operating new care homes in Telford, Bridgnorth and Whitchurch. We are confident that the new home in Oswestry will enhance the care services available in the area, especially as we plan to offer residential care with nursing care for older people as their requirements change, as well as provision for daytime care services, together on the same site.”
Coverage Care currently operates 16 care centres in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, all on a not for profit basis. The company employs 800 staff and provides a range of care services for more than 1600 mainly older people.
