A pedestrian has died after being injured following a collision with a car in Market Drayton.

The man was walking across Shrewsbury Road when the collision happened just after 10.30pm last night.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

“Despite the best efforts of ambulance staff and doctors, nothing could be done to save this man who was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances and have appealed for witnesses.

The man, thought to be in his fifties, has not yet been formally identified.

The vehicle involved was a silver coloured Volkswagen Golf. Its male driver was unhurt.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “We are compiling a report for the coroner into the circumstances and are appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or has information which might assist our inquiries, to contact Market Drayton police station on 0300-333-3000.”

The Coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, has been informed.
