Hundreds turn out for Shrewsbury community fayre
It was fun and games all the way at Severnside Housing’s annual Community Fayre, held at Sundorne Sports Village on Saturday 21 May.

Around 500 people attended the free event, which was open to the whole community and aimed at providing local people with advice and guidance around volunteering, getting back into employment, maximising their income and much more.
The day also featured fun and games together with interactive information stands, arts and crafts, trampolining, rock climbing, paintballing, zorbing and even a penalty shoot-out competition. Other new activities for this year’s event included video animation workshops, boxing taster sessions and hair and beauty treatments.
Lots of different partner agencies were on hand to offer information and advice, including Shropshire Council, West Mercia Police, PH Jones, Andy Walters, Vale Contracting, Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology, The Hive Music and Media Centre, The Prince’s Trust, Shropshire Housing Alliance and Citizens Advice Bureau. These agencies were joined by the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force, along with the Tenants and Residents Organisation of England (T.A.R.O.E), the Consortium of Shropshire Tenants (COST) and the Severnside Tenants and Residents group (STAR).
As everyone left at the end of the day they were asked to complete feedback forms about what they thought of the day. Overall, 98 per cent of people rated the day as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, 99 per cent of people felt the information stands were useful and 91 per cent of people felt the overall entertainment on the day was ‘good’ or ‘excellent’.
Other comments included: “This was a really good day and it catered for activities and information for all ages”, and “A great family day out, with lots for everyone to do”.
Edge Abboh, Community Development Officer at Severnside Housing said: “This is the fifth year that we’ve held our Community Fayre. Severnside is committed to creating vibrant communities, which is why we open the day to the whole community, not just Severnside tenants, as we believe that effective communities are about inclusion, not exclusion. Each year we have listened to feedback from people who attend and use the feedback to continue making the event each year better as a result.
“A big thank you to all of our partners and local agencies involved in supporting the day. With their support everyone who came along had a great time and we look forward to repeating the event again next year.”
