Sir Ranulph Fiennes tackles tent challenge in Shropshire
British adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes paid a visit to Shropshire to face a task a lot less exhausting than his usual challenges.

Sir Ranulph, holder of several endurance records, was tasked with putting three tents to the test in a novel challenge set and filmed by ITV’s Daybreak breakfast programme.
The light-hearted product test was hosted by Stanmore Hall Touring Park at Bridgnorth where three pairs of happy campers were given the task of assembling the tents. Sir Ranulph then inspected their work before blasting the tents with a pressure washer to recreate a typical summer thunderstorm.
Daybreak viewers were able to watch the challenge on Friday and it is available to view at http://www.itv.com/daybreak/presenters/philreay-smith/tried-and-tested-tents/
“The conclusion of the piece is to say to viewers plan a traditional British holiday and don’t settle for crowded foreign beaches and airport security,” explained presenter Phil Reay-Smith, consumer editor on Daybreak.
Visiting caravanners Alan and Caryl Wilson from Sussex assembled a low cost pop-up tent, Mark Crane and Amy Fewtrell assembled a traditional family tent and Lucy Grubb and Daniel Crane tackled a state-of-the-art inflatable tent.
Sir Ranulph said he had enjoyed his visit to Shropshire, which he described as “a really great place” and praised the peaceful setting and lay out of Stanmore Hall Touring Park.
“We were delighted to welcome the Daybreak film crew to Stanmore Hall Touring Park,” said Edward Goddard, Morris Leisure’s managing director. “It is great publicity for the park, tourism in Shropshire and the caravan industry in general.
“The tent challenge theme was very appropriate, as we are anticipating a bumper summer with even more British people than last year set to spend their holidays at home. We have had an excellent start to the holiday season.”
