Police have discovered a cannabis factory at an address in Randlay this morning.

One man has been arrested by officers following the discovery at a property in Brandsfarm Way in Randlay at around 9am.

Police officers visited the address as they attempted to make enquiries in relation to a separate ongoing investigation. But as police carried out their enquiries they discovered a number of cannabis plants growing under a hydroponics system.

The plants, 20 in total - and the hydroponics set up are currently being dismantled by police and will be seized for further forensic examination. The street value is estimated to be around £2,000.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and is being questioned by police at Malinsgate Police Station.

Inspector Paul Franks, of Telford Police, said the discovery was the result of some excellent police work.

He said: "Officers visited the address to carry out enquiries in relation to another matter. But following some excellent detective work, the officers discovered a small hydroponics set up, with around 20 small plants growing.

Police are still at the scene dismantling the unit. When this has been completed, the plants and the hydroponics system will be seized and taken away for further examination.

Targeting people involved in the use of and supply of drugs is a top priority for us, so today's discovery is to be welcomed."

Anyone with information about any drug related activity is urged to contact Police on 0300 333 300. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
