Telford school mergers to get final go ahead
Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet is being asked to approve a pair of school mergers which will create two new primary schools.

The move will see William Reynolds Infant School join with William Reynolds Junior and also Madeley Infant School join with John Fletcher Junior.
The cabinet, which meets on June 21, is being asked to approve the closure of William Reynolds Infants and Madeley Infants to create two new schools from September 2011.
The moves are in line with the council’s policy to review school provision when particular circumstances emerge, such as the retirement or resignation of head teachers – which is the case in both these instances.
“The council has carried out a full consultation with stakeholders since the intention to merge both sets of schools was announced earlier this year,” said Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for children and young people.
“The consultation processes for both mergers took place earlier in the year and were on the whole met with favourably.”
The mergers mean that the council will benefit from ongoing revenue savings which will be distributed to other schools within the borough.
