Elderly Shropshire man beaten and robbed in his home
A police investigation was underway in Shropshire today after a 76-year-old man was badly beaten up in his home by intruders who stole his vehicle.

The pensioner is in hospital with serious injuries following the robbery in the north Shropshire village of Loppington at around 11.30pm last night.
He was asleep in bed when confronted by two men. They forced him to the floor striking him around the head and face.
The victim was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with a gash to his head and face injuries, including a possible fractured eye socket. His condition this morning was described as stable.
Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff described it as a cowardly attack and appealed for public help in tracing the offenders.
Police are particularly anxious to locate the victim’s white Ford Ranger pickup, registration number PY08 LZX which was stolen from outside his house.
DI Wagstaff said: “The vehicle was driven off towards Wem. Initial indications suggest two men were involved in the incident, but it may be more.
“I am appealing for any possible sightings of the pickup late last night or throughout today. It may have had its number plates changed or it could have been abandoned. If anyone spots such a vehicle in suspicious circumstances, they should contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000 as a matter of urgency.”
She said officers have already carried out house to house enquiries in Loppington and urged anyone with information which might possibly assist the police investigation to get in touch.
“This is a distressing incident which has left an elderly man seriously injured and traumatised. We are carrying out extensive inquiries and would welcome any information from the public which might help us locate the missing vehicle or identify the offenders.”
Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
