Man cautioned after cannabis found at Market Drayton home
A 24-year-old man received a police caution after officers found a large amount of cannabis plants at his home in Market Drayton.
Officers attended the address in Shrewsbury Road at about 11am on Thursday 23 June 2011, after several reports from the public about a strong smell of cannabis.
While there, officers could also smell cannabis and entered the property, where they found at least nine mature cannabis plants, hydroponics equipment and some cut plants.
The occupant was arrested on suspicion of production of a class B drug and admitted the offence when he was interviewed at Market Drayton Police Station. He said the drug was for personal use and received a police caution.
The drugs, estimated to have a street value of over £1,000 if sold, and equipment from the property were seized and have been sent for destruction.
Police Constable Chris Peel, from Market Drayton Police Station, urged anyone who suspected drug-related activity may be going on in their area to always report their concerns to police on 0300 333 3000.
“Police always take such information seriously and, although our response is not always immediately highly visible, we always take action to deal with concerns,” he said.
“The more information we get from communities about suspicious activity, the more evidence we have to build a case for actions such as warrants from the courts.
“If you have concerns but are worried about being identified, information can be passed on via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
