The Steering Committee of the Whitchurch Town and Parish Plan today handed the first copy over to the Whitchurch Town Mayor.

A short procession from the Bullring in which local schools helped celebrate the important event marked the occasion.

A summary of the Plan will be distributed to every household and business in the Town and Parish next week. The full copy of the Plan will also be available for download from the Parish Plan website www.whitchurchshrop.org.uk. and paper versions will be supplied to the Library, the Heritage Centre, local schools, interested bodies and the Town Council and local Shropshire Councillors.

The Plan incorporates an Action Plan for the future development of the Town in accordance with the wishes of local people. The Chair of the Town and Parish Plan Steering Committee, Philip Walker has described the Plan as: ‘A Community led Plan developed from the largest and most detailed survey of local opinion ever undertaken in Whitchurch. It follows over two years of consultation and deliberation’.

The Whitchurch Town & Parish Plan started with public meetings in the autumn of 2008. It is based upon the replies to the questionnaire that was sent to every household and business in the Town and Parish in February 2010. The results were analysed by a professional consultant and presented to a public meeting in June 2010. The results of the survey were used as the basis for production of the Plan The draft Plan was presented to members of the Town Council In February 2011 and then received the formal adoption by the Whitchurch Town Council at their meeting on 17th March 2011.

The Town Council will now spearhead the delivery of the Plan supported by the community. All members of the community are urged to become involved in making the vision a reality.
