A delegation from Telford & Wrekin Council are today joining Telford MP David Wright at a meeting with Eric Pickles.

Telford & Wrekin Council delegation meet Eric Pickles

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government will host council leader Kuldip Sahota and Councillor Bill McClements, cabinet member for Resources and Service Delivery at the House of Commons.

The meeting is intended to provide a springboard for a good relationship between the council and Central Government.

Subjects for discussion will include how the council is restructuring, its plans for the future and the financial difficulties it faces.

"We are hoping for a constructive meeting where we will put Telford's clear case for extra resources and are hoping the Secretary of State will listen to us with an open mind,” said Councillor Sahota

“This is not a party political matter as I believe Telford & Wrekin Council has been underfunded regardless of which party has been in power nationally.

“This is simply about raising issues that are important to the people of Telford and Wrekin with the right people at the right time. This is about doing all we can to protect and maintain frontline services in the borough.

“We will be highlighting to Mr Pickles the savings we have already achieved by halving the senior management team as part of a total package of £35m savings to be delivered over three years.”
