Two cannabis factories discovered in Telford
Two cannabis factories have been discovered by police at two separate addresses in Telford after two drug warrants were executed.
Police visited two addresses in Shawfield Close in Sutton Hill yesterday at 4pm as a result of information from members of the public.
At one address a number of mature cannabis plants, with a street value of around £5,500, were discovered growing under a hydroponics system. A quantity of another substance, believed to be Class A drugs, was also found. The substance will be sent off for forensic analysis.
A 42 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the production and possession of a controlled drug. A 39 year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug. They both remain in police custody and are currently being interviewed.
At a separate address in the same street, a number of cannabis plants, to the value of around £500, and a quantity of cannabis, around £150, was discovered.
A 29 year-old man and a 25 year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of the production of drugs and the possession of drugs with intent to supply. The man remains in police custody and is due to be interviewed today. The woman has been bailed.
The drug warrants were executed as part of a week long partnership initiative, aimed at addressing quality of life issues within the local community.
A variety of initiatives, including clamping vehicles, executing warrants, addressing fly tipping, speed enforcement activity and fire prevention visits have been under taken by the local partners, which has included Telford Police, Telford & Wrekin Council, Wrekin Housing Trust and Bourneville, Shropshire Fire and Rescue and the DVLA.
Inspector Derek Holland, of the South Telford Local Policing Team, today said the drug warrants were a success and expressed his thanks to the local community for their support.
He said: “The warrants were carried out as a result of information from members of the public.
“A total of 19 officers were involved in the operation. They visited the addresses and had to force entry to one of the properties.
“An amount of drugs was found at both addresses and four people were arrested.
“These were successful warrants and I would like to thank members of the public for their support and coming and talking to us and telling us about matters that concern them.
“Targeting people involved in the use of and supply of drugs is a top priority for us.
“We would urge any members of the public concerned about drug crime or suspicious activity within the community in which they live to come and speak to us.”
