Special Tea Party held for Shropshire Blood Trust Fund helpers
Nearly 250 people attended a special Tea Party held to say a big thank you to those who have helped the Shropshire Blood Trust Fund raise more than one million pounds.

The fund seeks to improve the care of all people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who use local haematology services. The majority of these patients suffer from a blood cancer – lymphoma or leukaemia – and the money raised is being used to help develop the new Cancer and Haematology Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
In recognition of the hard work put in to raising these funds a Tea Party was held at the Shropshire Education and Conference Centre (SECC) at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on 30 June 2011.
Dr Nigel O'Connor, Consultant Haematologist, said: “I would like to thank everyone who has helped to raise such a fantastic amount of money, our hospital really does benefit from the generosity of the people of Shropshire and mid Wales. All the haematology staff feel honoured to be able to look after and treat the amazing patients and their families, and it is nice to see so many old friends. Unfortunately over the years many patients have lost the fight against cancer, and at this special party we remembered them as well.”
Event organisers, Mrs Angela O'Connor and Mrs Frances Potter, sent invitations to everyone who had helped to raise money for the fund over the last decade. Just over £1,000 was raised at the event through a raffle, sale of cakes which had not been eaten and donations. Thanks were also given to the SECC and Concept Catering who did not charge for their services on the day.

The money raised by the fund is going towards the new multi-million pound Cancer and Haematology Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, which will provide state of the art outpatient and day case facilities for these patients. The centre will cater for about 25,000 appointments each year.
