Police are investigating after thieves broke into a Telford home and stole the owner's car off the drive.

Thieves burgle Telford home and steal car

The break-in happened at an address in Cygnet Drive in Brookside some time between 10pm on Thursday and 6.30am on Friday.

Thieves forced their way into the property and carried out a thorough search downstairs while the occupants of the property were asleep upstairs.

A number of items were stolen including the keys to a red BMW 118d sports car - registration DV59 XAZ - which was subsequently stolen.

Other items stolen include a 42 inch LG television, a 22 inch Samsung flatscreen, a Nintendo Wii, an ipod nano, a Nintendo DS, JVC speakers, a mobile telephone, purse and keys.

Police are investigating the matter and are appealing for witnesses.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "The family were asleep upstairs and didn't hear anything. The first time they became aware of the break-in was when they got up on Friday morning.

"Thieves had carried out a search downstairs and stolen various electrical items. The owner's car had also been stolen after thieves stole the keys from within the property.

"Police are investigating the matter and want to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the area at the time.

"We also want to hear from anyone who has seen the vehicle or has been offered any of the stolen items for sale.

"If you can help us with our enquiries in relation to the matter please contact us on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
