Three burglary suspects arrested following police pursuit near Whitchurch

They were taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station on suspicion of carrying out a number of burglary offences in the Higher Heath area.

Police officers tracked their black VW Golf GTi across the Welsh border and successfully arrested the men after they abandoned the vehicle.

Detective Sergeant John Weaver, the investigating officer, said: "West Mercia Police officers were alerted by residents of Higher Heath who had been disturbed in their homes between 4am and 5am.

"The officers located a black VW Golf which was pursued for several miles before the occupants abandoned it and were arrested shortly after at around 6.30am."

He said the men were currently being held in connection with four burglaries or attempted burglaries in Heathwood Road and Woodlands Grove in Higher Heath at around 4.30am.

"Investigations are continuing and I am appealing for any information which might assist us. In particular, we are urging people to contact Shrewsbury CID on 0300 333 3000 if they spotted either the black VW Golf or men acting suspiciously in the Higher Heath area between 4am and 6am today".

DS Weaver added: "It is also important for anyone else in the area who thinks their home or garage has been broken into, contacts the police immediately."

The number to call is Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000.
