The Wrekin Housing Trust, along with developer Lovell Partnerships, is thrilled to have opened its exciting new eco development, Arleston Lane (now named Windsor Court) in Wellington.

New eco-development opened in Wellington

The event, which took place on Thursday, was officially opened by eco design consultant and champion of sustainable homes, Oliver Heath. Alongside residents from the development and invited guests, Oliver cut the ribbon to unveil the building’s official plaque.

Oliver said: “I’m thrilled to be opening such an innovative and eco-friendly sustainable development as Windsor Court. It’s a great testament to everyone involved that they have been brave enough to push ahead with a green idea that really does fit into the local community. I know from speaking to the residents that it has changed lives and people are going to enjoy living here for years to come.”

There was also the chance to watch a video of the progress of the development, from dangerous and unsightly flats to an innovative and sustainable housing scheme, featuring a living grass roof that changes with the seasons and reduces fuel bills for the residents. The video includes clips of the Arleston Lane residents speaking about how their new homes have improved their lives.

One of the new residents living at the development, Tiffany Barrett, said: “My house is fantastic and I’m thrilled to be living in such a great community. The fact that the whole development is based on eco principles is an added bonus in what I consider to be a fantastic place to live and it’s been great meeting some of the people involved today.”

The new Arleston Lane development has been built on Trust land and now provides 20 brand new homes in place of the derelict flats. There is a mixture of apartments, which feature the grass roof, and houses, two of which have been specially adapted for those with particular requirements.

Jean Teichmann, Head of Development at the Trust, said: “This development is the way forward in sustainable housing. It provides a great example for any other sustainable development within Shropshire.

“We are proud of what we’ve achieved with our partners at Windsor Court, and hope to create many more developments like this. On behalf of the Trust and Lovell, who developed the site, I would like to wish everyone who lives there a long and happy life in their new home.”

The Wrekin Housing Trust is planning to develop similar affordable housing sites across Shropshire and the Midlands and anyone with land or opportunities for development can contact the Trust. For more information on The Wrekin Housing Trust visit www.wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk.
