Police are trying to trace the owners of a quantity of property, including copper cabling and lead, recovered from an address in Bishop's Castle.

Suspected stolen property seized at Bishop’s Castle

They believe the items have been stolen from the south Shropshire or Powys areas in recent weeks and have arrested two men in connection with the matter.

Police Constable Matt Harding, the investigating officer, said he found the items after calling at an address in Bishop's Castle on July 17. Two men were at the address stripping copper cabling.

Further searches of the home and a vehicle resulted in a quantity of lead, two industrial batteries and some new cabling being seized.

PC Harding said he was anxious to trace the owners of the property who are likely to be from the Bishop's Castle, Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Ludlow areas or from over the border into Powys.

"The copper cabling is flat, about an inch wide, coated in grey plastic. I recovered 23 strips about half a metre long and a larger quantity which had been stripped.

"All the lead is old covered in dirt and stains and may have been ripped from derelict buildings and fence posts. There are three six-inch diameter post caps, one nine-inch post cap, 13 five-inch by five-inch lead flashing - possibly from a roof peak as they have a fold in the middle - and seven random sized lengths of lead flashing."
Other items recovered were two yellow heavy duty Hawker power safe batteries and 10 new black AFC cabling.

PC Harding added: "Anyone who is missing such items can contact me at Ludlow police station on 0300 333 3000. It's likely they were taken earlier this month."

The two men arrested on suspicion of theft have been given police bail while enquiries continue.
